Abstract

An upgrade of the Hohenheim Tyre Model for the simulation of obstacle passages was presented at the last AgEng conference in 2011. Based on this work the model was revised and advanced. In order to depict wheel-obstacle interaction more precisely non-linear, interradial springs are introduced. In addition to that, the longitudinal model which was adopted from the existing Hohenheim Tyre Model is replaced. Instead of that tangential tyre stiffness and damping are introduced in conjunction with a slip-stick contact model. Thus the interaction of driven or braked wheels to uneven ground can be described more precisely. Finally the model structure was optimized to reduce computational effort.
The model was then parameterized for two different wheel loads, tyre inflation pressures and tyre sizes, respectively. With the given parameter sets comprehensive validation tests were accomplished using the Institute owned single wheel tester.
However, this presentation does not just focus on the discussion of single tyre behaviour. In addition to that, tests with a research tractor equipped with measuring wheels were conducted. An MBS (Multi-Body Simulation) model of the tractor in conjunction with the Hohenheim Tyre Model is used for validation and optimisation of the complete vehicle.
