Abstract

The Hohenheim Tyre Model has been developed to investigate driving dynamics of vehicles
equipped with high volume, agricultural tyres. Tyre-ground interaction is described by means
of a point contact.
In order to simulate the passage of obstacles, the model structure has been revised. The
new model can be classified as an adaptive footprint model and is capable to describe the
tyre-ground interaction in greater detail. It consists of radially arranged Voigt-Kelvin elements
that are interconnected by interradial springs. The longitudinal model of the existing
approach is inherited to simulate traction forces. The radial elements rotate according to the
angular velocity of the wheel. Therefore, the interaction with the obstacle can be depicted
realistically. Furthermore, the displacement of the wheel load and thus the occurrence of the
rolling resistance can be described.
